This workshop is suitable for both beginners and more advanced students. There will be a nominal $5 fee but students must purchase a blank chop (seal) the cost of which will be in the region of $10 - $18 dollars depending on the size and quality, and pay the normal $2 for attendance at the Arts Complex. Bring your lunch (to share might be nice) so that you can continue working into the afternoon if necessary.
A Chop (Seal) is used to ‘sign’ calligraphy and painting in Chinese, Japanese and other oriental cultures. The chop is ‘inked’using a vermilion paste and then carefully placed on the work to provide the finishing touch. For the making of your chop a red stamp pad can be used so if you have one of these please bring it with you.
If you have engraving tools please bring them with you, but if not I will have both engraving tools and the traditional Chinese chop carving tools for students to use.
